most of the items that are located in the sleep aid aisle are some strong medications to me. They give directions on not taking it if you can't sleep for a certain amount of time which leads me to believe that it is a strong medicine. There are liquid medicines, pills, all located at the eye level. towards the bottom, you can find the "melatonin" vitamin chews or the aromatherapy items. I see that the NyQuil has the most prominent of positions on the shelving. to the bottom right, there are sleep salves and again some of the more 'natural' items.
I have never used any of the over the counter medicines like NyQuil. I get scared that they will keep me from waking up in the morning. As a teacher, that is not good because then your students are just sitting there waiting! I also have no thyroid and I have found that many of these over the counter medicines say "do not take if you have a thyroid problem" so I worry why they would come straight out and say that! I also worry about a racing heart or possibly by heart slowing down! I hear of people I work with that take the sleeping pills or NyQuil and I think I just worry that I will be that 1:100000 time that something goes wrong!!I think if i had more information on why someone with a thyroid disorder should be cautious when taking these medicines or what to look for if I take it and have a reaction. I think in whole, the what is it doing to me is the main question...how does it relax me to get me asleep?
the one brand was named rescue..i.rescue remedy spray, sleep aid, pastilles. that looks very interesting. It is located with the medicinals but is more on the natural route. Alteril all natural sleep aid was also located next to this rescue brand. Hyland's brand is one that I used for my kids that is also natural. I am not sure why but I associate the "natural" form with less reactions and possibly offering a 'kinder/gentler' form of sleep..that it brings it on more natural (no pun) than when I see something like NyQuil, I think boom take it and you are out like a light!
I think if I were to buy one today I would get the lavender spray (which I have tried) I had never seen the rescue brand one.
when I went to Walgreens, maybe I just didn't see it,
I think that I would create a drink that can be microwaved or heated to provide some warm sleep aid. It would have some chamomile in it and be able to be warmed up.
"bills! kids! work! home! having stress in your life can affect your sleep! Help relax and get a good night's sleep with the help of our warm chamomile tea! It has a soothing taste and comes in a convenient travel cup that can be warmed in the microwave! A few seconds in the microwave and you can warm your belly and ease your mind enough to help you drift off to sleep! Not near a microwave? you can also enjoy our tea over some ice! "
